Ring, ring, ring.
There's my alarm again. It reminds me of yesterday, when I was visiting my daughter in the hospital.
"I'm scared, daddy."
"Don't worry, sweetheart, everything will be okay."
Well, it's 6 A.M. time to get up and go to work. It's so hard getting out of bed in the morning. it feels like I have to use every last ounce of my energy to just turn off my alarm, let alone walk to the kitchen to make breakfast.
"What are they making me eat, daddy? It tastes so weird. And what's this medicine?"
"It's just to help you feel better, dear. Tell you what, when you get out of here, I'll take you to the Ice Cream store down town, and you can have as much ice cream as you want!"
"Really?! Thank you, daddy!"
At least I did a nice job with the coffee this morning. I think I'll finish this off with a nice bowl of cereal.
Where's my coat?
Ah, here we are, I left it in the computer room last night. I don't really remember why. I must have forgotten it in here last night after sitting at the computer for so long.
"Why did it have to come to this?
I guess I don't have any other choice... If I do this tomorrow, I'll finally have enough."
I've got to find my robe, too. It must be up in my closet, that's where I usually leave it.
Yep, here it is. Off I go, now. I need to hurry or else I'll be late.
There's that hospital sign, again. I remember watching that pass by while I was riding in the ambulance.
"Daddy! It hurts! Make it stop!"
"Don't worry sweetie! We're taking you to the hospital, these nice men will help you feel all better!"
I'm almost to the courthouse. It's always so difficult finding somewhere to park. You'd think I'd have a reserved spot, but oh well. It doesn't really matter, as long as I'm not late.
"Is it too late, doctor? Isn't there anything we can do?"
"Well, there is one thing, but
"
"But what?"
"It's the most expensive procedure we have here, and every insurance company we've talked to won't pay for it."
"I'll come up with the money somehow, Doc. Just give my daughter whatever she needs!"
"Alright, sir, if you're sure."
The halls are bright today. The walls are glowing from the warm sunlight. I can see my own reflection in the floor. The courthouse is truly a beautiful sight.
Here comes the court bailiff. He's going to announce my arrival, I suppose.
"Judge Davis has arrived. Today's trial will now begin."
Alright... Here I go...
"We don't have need to continue this trial any further. I have reviewed all the evidence myself and have concluded that the defendant is not guilty"
The slam of my gavel finishes it. What's done is done. I needed to do this.
"But sir! How can you say that?! He's obviously the one who did it!"
"Guards! That man is stepping out of line! Don't let him get any closer to me! Owch!"
God, I hate it when people in the audience do that. That man just came up and socked me square in the face!
"That was my son! That man killed my son! And you're just letting him go free! I'll never forgive you for this, Davis! Never!"
Thank God the guards got hold of him. Who knows what he would've done next? Well, I guess it's time to go collect my pay. I know he's a killer, and he should be behind bars, but
I need this money
I'm doing the right thing, right?
Right?
